We are a group of Lakota and Dakota women who want to see Indigenous languages & cultures grow and thrive. We focus on using (and teaching others to use) techniques that have a proven track record for creating fluent speakers.
Lakota Elder, mother, & language teacher
Sharon learned the Dakota language from her family- her grandparents, mom, dad, brothers and sister. This language knowledge represents countless generations of traditional knowledge and ways of knowing. She knows that for a strong Nation, the language must be kept alive. She is a strong believer that we all must work to ensure that language learning is available for the next generation, and for future generations to come. Sharon is dedicated not only to preserving the Dakota language, but also to ensuring that it thrives.
Oglala Lakota mom of two and language teacher. Janet holds a mechanical engineering degree and works in industry as a senior engineeer. Her language focus is specifically geared towards special education settings.
Dr. Little Hawk-Big Crow is an enrolled member of the Oglala Lakota Tituwan. Stephanie was raised by a single father and maternal grandmother in Wakpamni district located on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota. Stephanie received her Doctorate in Business Administration emphasizing in Healthcare Management Leadership from California Intercontinental University, Irvine, California; a Master in Education, Northern Arizona University, Flagstaff, Arizona; Bachelors of Social Sciences, and three Associates, Oglala Lakota College, South Dakota. She holds a Certificate of Completion from the Global Leadership School for Indigenous Women Leaders, Columbia University, New York. Stephanie has held numerous volunteer and professional positions.
Currently, Stephanie is taking a break from enrollment with the World Intellectual Property Organization studying Intellectual Property Rights. Stephanie focuses on Intellectual Property Rights of the Oceti Sakowin Cultural Heritage, Folklore, Languages, and Genetic resources (tangible/intangible) as viable economic assets to convert to a Oceti Sakowin Circular Tatanka Economy and safeguard further exploitation of cultural heritage for future generations.
Amanda Provost, Ihaŋktoŋwaŋ/Huŋkpati Dakota & Huŋkpapa Lakota. An enrolled member of the Yankton Sioux Tribe, mother of 3, photographer, living & working in Sioux Falls, SD. Amanda is a language learner & revitalizer committed to building community through language reclamation.
